When to go

The golden mushroom season in Angol and Vegas Blancas is concentrated in Autumn (April to early July), after the first rains of the season, when the forest regains its moisture.

Forager's Manual

  • Cut, don't pull: Use a knife so you don't damage the underground mycelium.
  • Use baskets: Plastic bags rot the mushrooms and prevent spore dispersal.
  • When in doubt: If you don't know what it is, photograph it — but don't eat it.
